Barley - Chocolate Lab Search & Rescue Dog

Barley - a Search & Rescue Dog
with Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs

From her owner, Andre' - "Lady "Barley" Blue and I are active members of Rocky Mountain Rescue Dogs.

"RMRD is an all volunteer, non-profit canine search and rescue organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We currently have approximately 30 dog/handler teams and we respond to searches in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Arizona and had four dog teams respond to ground zero following 9/11. More about our organization can be found at rockymountainrescuedogs.net

"My dog, Barley, is a seven year old chocolate lab who has known nothing but search work since she was born. We have been with the team since January of 2002 and we have responded to many searches and spent countless hours of training in avalanche SAR, water SAR, wilderness SAR, collapsed structure SAR and tracking skills."

The shadow in this painting created a composition that is bold and colorful and I really enjoyed painting it. Her eyes are not really evil glowing orbs like they appear in the photo - I really have got to take better photos!

If you are a member of Search & Rescue, K-9 or Mounted Patrol, please allow me to paint a small portrait for you at no charge, in gratitude for your service.

Charity Painting to benefit Lone Star Bulldog Rescue

Charity Painting to benefit Lone Star Bulldog Rescue
and check out "Computer Tools for Artists" on eBay

This is a watercolor painting that I did a few years ago. I am auctioning it off to generate funds for Lone Star Bulldog Rescue

From the Lone Star Bulldog site: Here at Lone Star Bulldog Rescue we accept Bulldogs whose owners can no longer keep them, and retrieve Bulldogs from shelters and undesirable situations. We then rehabilitate them before placement by providing necessary medical treatment, as well as spaying and neutering all dogs that come into our care.At this point we thoroughly screen applicants before making placement decisions, as well as informing interested adopters about rescue and our requirements. Then we place Bulldogs in suitable homes as soon as reasonably possible, so they can start their "new lives" quickly. While these Bulldogs are waiting for their new homes they are fostered in the home of someone in our rescue.

Any of you artists out there will be interested in the book I have on ebay - there are only a few hours left - check it out - Creative Computer Tools for Artists - it shows you how to use your computer to help with compositional decisions, color choices, lots of great ideas for using the power of your computer to help you make better art! I really learned a lot from it. You might be interested in looking at it - click here to view the auction for the book, or search for aportraitforyou on eBay.

Thanks again for your interest and emails!

Weekly Post

In an effort to reduce the amount of time I spend on this computer (which is getting way out of hand) I am going to start posting the daily paintings once a week. I'm not sure what day it will be, but I'm going to try to get organized. If you want to see each painting as I paint it, be sure to sign up for the Daily Dog Painting email newsletter and you will get the paintings as I finish them!

Without further ado - here are this week's paintings leading off with Sunday's Charity Auction:

Sunday - November 12
Weimaraner
4"x6" oil on panel
100% Charity Auction for Weimaraner Rescue

Saturday, November 11
Coton De Tulear
CH. Irresistable Sir Oliver of Lake Jen

You'll be seeing more of this boy, I think!

Friday, November 10
"The Object of My Affections - No. 1"
German Shepherd & Ball
4"x 6" Oil on Panel

This is the first in a series I have planned of dogs and their favorite toys.
If you have a photo of your dog and their favorite toy and would like to see it as a painting - please send it to me! I would greatly appreciate it and I'm sure everyone else will too!

Thursday - November 9
"Pensive Pug"
4"x6" oil on panel

Thanks to DoxieOne from Flickr who generously allowed me to use her photograph.

Tuesday - November 7
"The Clown and the Lady"
2 Golden Retrievers
18"x 24" Oil on Canvas
Collection of Pat & Mary Wilkie

This is a private commission I am working on, it's not completely done yet. I am going to add some interplay of light and color from a window that is out of view from the painting, but I thought you might be interested in seeing a larger work, although the photo is not good.
